Painter, glazier and magistrate, 18 High Street
John Goodfellow, house painter, was on both the town council and the parish council, serving as a bailie (magistrate) for the former. His business at 18 High Street succeeded that of William Johnstone in 1885.
His son John junior followed him into the painting trade and was cornet in 1902 and captain of the rugby club in 1903.

The photo below is of the Langholm sevens team, winners of the championship in Hawick in 1899, with John at back right.

John’s son, another John (1907-1951), was a Scotland rugby international in 1928, the Langholm Golf Club captain in 1938 and its champion in 1938 and 1939.
