Milliner, 116 High Street
Isabella (1876-1924) was the second of Mary Davidson’s three daughters by three different fathers. Bella’s father John Pringle was a labourer from Canonbie and died in Langholm at age 22.
In 1891, at the age of 15, Isabella was a millworker in Langholm. By 1915 she owned a shop at 116 High Street and a house at 2 Gas Entry where she lived with her mother.
1915 was still in the era of the corset, before Coco Chanel’s and others’ innovations in the 1920s, such as the ‘little black dress‘.

She never married or had children, and died in 1924, aged 48.
