James Jardine

Private James Jardine’s coffin arrived at the railway station at 9.25 a.m. from Dumfries. Fifteen soldiers from the 2/5th KOSB with Langholm connections paraded at the station at 12.30 p.m., after which a short service was held by Rev. Richard Smith, minister elect of the EU Congregational Church. The coffin, draped with a Union Jack, was led by the soldiers and pipers to Staplegordon Cemetery, nearly three miles away, where a volley was fired and the Last Post played before James was buried in his father’s grave.
